Rihanna is fashion Gold!!!
After recently nabbing the "Fashion Icon" award, then dominating social media for that entire week after sashaying in her daring Swarovski crystal gown, Rihanna is continuously getting praised by the fashion community. Balmain tapped her to join their Spring 2014 campaign and Olivier Rousteing, the creative visionary behind the brand had this to say about his "muse"...
"I love seeing a woman, the feeling of a model, a top model. When you look at an old Versace show, you loved the dress, but you loved Claudia Schiffer, you loved Cindy Crawford. Supermodels! With Rihanna you get that, too. Today people are looking at Rihanna like they were looking at Naomi Campbell or Claudia... nobody wants to be a model, everybody wants to be a singer. That's the new dream. I think having Rihanna in the campaign is like having Cindy Crawford of Christy Turlington, but for my generation."
For a while now, supermodels have complained that musicians and movie stars are taking their covers. Certainly there's some truth to what Rousteing has stated. On the flip side there are folks like Cara Delevingne (see my previous post) and Giselle Bundchen that show there is still a demand for fashion models in that lane of work.
Either way, Rihanna undoubtedly can look forward to future fashion campaigns and solidifying her place in history for being able to marry fashion and music.
