Give Your Home a Head Start on Fall

Even though it's still technically summer and I've been sweating bullets in Atlanta these last few days, I'm looking ahead and preparing my home for the upcoming season.

There's nothing more exciting about shopping and freshening up your home for a new season. Fall brings beautiful leaves, cooler weather, and some of the most stylish clothes. But what about our homes? What can we look forward to?

Getting Your Home Ready for FallWhat do you need to give your home some much needed coziness and color change for fall? For example, when spring is near people tend to opt out of darker colors and lean more towards light, pastel hues and floral designs.

What can be used to give your home some fall flair? Here are a few tips to consider:

1. Change your wall decor

Changing your wall decor for something with gold, orange and red color tones is a good start to choosing a fall color palette. Just like buying something new, whether it be clothes or a new car, it gets you excited about the possibilities of what's to come.

The gold sunburst and abstract artwork below provide the perfect colors for fall. The artwork can give any room some style and flair, while the sunburst gives a touch of glamour and texture.

2. Trade out your curtains for something with richer, darker colors

Curtains aren't cheap, so kicking out the extra bucks just because it's a new season might not be your forte--but they can certainly dress up any room. Just remember you can swap them out for years to come.

3. Freshen up your pillows

Pillows are the easiest way to transform a room into a stylish one. No matter if you choose solids or a print, the right colors can do the trick. Adding 3 or 4 new pillows to a space can make a huge difference with little effort.

4. Decorate with branches
Using a vase to display any type of decor adds a touch of style. Fill a vase with a branch similar to the one below to instantly shape your home for fall.

5. Bring in the wood

If you've read my post about wood walls, you would know how much I have grown to love this material. Wood gives a homey feel and instantly transforms a place into a warm and inviting environment. Even if you do not have a fireplace, adding wood as decor would make for a cozy setting.

6. Change out your wreath

Welcome your guests to your home with a fall greeting. This is probably the cheapest way to spruce up your home for fall and can easily turn into a fun D.I.Y. project.

7. Cozy up under a new throw
Cooler temperatures are on the horizon, so what better reason to pick up a new throw. The ones from last year are probably linty and smell stale from being stored away to the back of your closet. Pick a  throw with a fall color that you can snuggle under as the temperatures fall.

8. Pull out the paint brush
My walls  right about now need a coat of paint and not because of fall. They just look very scuffed and dull. Get your family and friends and turn it into a fun project. When it's complete, you'll want to stock up on hot chocolate. The colors below are great shades to consider.
