But what about an accent wood wall? I'm not talking 70s style wood paneling, which most people cringe at the sight of...
We use woods for floors, cabinetry, and furniture, but what do you think about decorating your walls with it? Wood gives a home the feeling of warmth, coziness, and rusticness...and just like exposed brick, it can instantly add character to a room that could otherwise be boring.
Take the picture above...the beautiful floors, the accent pieces, and the chic, modern furniture bring life to the room...but the wood wall is an unexpected feature that makes it stand out. Think about the conversations guests will start when they take a look at it.
The good thing about this trend, is that it can be used with any design style: traditional, modern, contemporary, and of course eclectic.
When considering using wood, there are several details to consider:
- What size would you want the planks to be? Large and wide or slim?
- Wood comes in a variety of colors, so are you going for a deep, rich, dark look or something light and airy?
- Or, like the picture above, will you use a mix of different woods and colors?
- Which room will you use it in? Honestly, they look great in any room...living rooms (of course), bedrooms, bathrooms, or even in the foyer.
- Will your planks be horizontal or vertical?
Of course wood can be purchased, but it can also be salvaged. If you have it left over from another design project, or maybe you've located some from a construction site, think about using these materials because it will certainly save some cash. Mixing different types of woods would add variety and make the wall look even more unique.
Another thing to take note of is how hanging objects, mirrors, pictures, or any type of wall art would be easy. Plus, dinging up your wall with nail markings is a non-factor with this material, since the holes wouldn't be as visible.
