Home Transformations: A Hollywood Hills Home Gets the Ultimate Makeover

My idea of a Sunday afternoon is curling up in my hammock, pulling out my iPad, and surfing Houzz for inspiring home transformations. I'm not in the market to buy or renovate any homes at the moment, but there's something about witnessing a space that has been transformed into a cozy and livable dwelling.

This four bedroom, four bathroom home located in the Hollywood Hills is featured on Houzz by Nora Trulsson. What you see above was the beginning of the transformation of this 1912 cottage style home--before it was completely gutted due to a rotting and crumbling foundation. Owned by Colin Rhys, the principal of design-build firm The Xanadu Group, he saw the potential in this property and definitely brought it to life.

With an abundance of curb appeal, I'm sure this home stands out in it's neighborhood with those gorgeous teal colored shutters. I adore that color, along with all of the lush greenery that makes the exterior look so tropical and inviting.

I tried to stay true to what was there and what was in the neighborhood,” Rhys said about the exterior.

One of the first things you will notice about this home, is the owner's love for collecting art and how they bring life to the rooms. There's plenty of wall space to use as a blank canvas, especially since the walls are so neutral. Even with the half-wall that separates and defines the living area above, the tall ceiling heights still make it look completely open.

The skylights bring in a ton of natural light; Paired with the recessed lighting and light colored flooring, this makes the living space feel bright and airy.

Nothing makes me happier about this room, than the indoor-outdoor living arrangement. I would kill to have an open space like this, where the walls can be tucked away to invite the outdoors, in.

Of course there are people who hate bugs and would be scared that animals might creep into their home, but California has the perfect weather for this type of set-up. But you can't guarantee a bird won't fly in. (Lol) Imagine lounging on a sunny Saturday afternoon with a view to the backyard like this!

Then, imagine waking up in your bedroom and once again inviting the outside in, as you relax and sip on a cup of coffee. The owner chose this for his second-story master bedroom with a view from the balcony that overlooked the backyard. What do you like about this home?
